Austin Man Crashes Into Tree and Dies While Fleeing From Cops

CHICAGO — A man died after he crashed into a tree in Austin while trying to flee from cops who pulled him over for speeding, police said.

The crash occurred about 8:57 p.m. Tuesday, when cops pulled over the man's vehicle near the intersection of LeMoyne Avenue and Monitor Street, said Officer Ron Gaines, a police spokesman.

As officers were getting out of a squad car, the man sped off and crashed into a tree.

The 29-year-old man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:57 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The man was later identified as Dameon Moore, of the 1300 block of North Waller Avenue, by the medical examiner's office.
