One Dead, 11 Wounded in Friday, Saturday Gun Violence

CHICAGO — One person is dead and 11 others wounded in gun violence Friday night and Saturday.

A 27-year-old man was killed Saturday morning around 4 a.m. in the 100 block of East 115th Street in Roseland, said Officer Michael Sullivan.

The victim, identified as Shannon Ware, of the 100 block of West 115th Street, was standing on a sidewalk when another man fired shots at him from across the street. The gunman then fled in a light-colored, four-door sedan, Sullivan said.

Ware was hit in the head and chest and was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

Shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday, a male was shot in the left side inthe 2500 block of East 105th Street, said Officer Veejay Zala, a police spokesman.

On Saturday afternoon, at about 4 p.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in the elbow in the 9300 block of South Chappell Avenue, said Officer Joshua Purkiss, a police spokesman. He was taken in stable condition to Advocate Trinity Hospital.

At about 2:20 Saturday morning, a 30-year-old man was sitting on a porch in the 1400 block of North Springfield Avenue was shot in the shoulder when a dark car approached and fired shots. The man taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital.

A 24-year-old man was shot in the 2100 block of West Fullerton at about 2:50 a.m. The man drove to Norwegian Hospital and was transferred to Stroger Hospital.

On Friday night, around 9 p.m. a man in his late teens was standing on the sidewalk in the 2800 block of West Arthington when a man approached firing shots. He was hit in his neck, buttocks and groin before being taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, Sullivan said.

Six people were shot in an apparent drive-by shooting outside an Uptown grocery store at about 7:15 on Friday night. Three people were transferred to area hospitals in critical condition, but police said their conditions had stabilized overnight.
