DOWNTOWN — A Matteson man was arrested with two handguns in the Loop shortly before the Blackhawks parade started Friday, police said.

Roger Harrison, 36, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, according to the Cook County State's Attorney's office.

Harrison, of suburban Matteson, was arrested at 10:10 a.m. on the 100 block of North LaSalle Street, which is near City Hall, police said.

Police said officers noticed the man acting suspiciously.

He allegedly admitted to having a handgun in his pocket.

But when police searched him, they found a second handgun in the man's backpack, officials said.

The arrest happened before double-decker buses carrying the Blackhawks passed by on nearby Washington Street. But the streets at that time were already full with thousands of fans.

"As we made clear prior to today's events, police would be doing searches of large bags and backpacks and this arrest is a clear example of the effectiveness of those efforts," police said in a statement.

Harrison is expected to appear in bond court Saturday.
