CHICAGO — A 18-year-old South Shore man died early Thursday, a day after being shot near his home.

Tracy Gipson, 18, of the 7600 block of South Ridgeland Avenue, was declared dead at 4:39 a.m. Thursday at John Stroger Hospital, 1900 W. Polk St.

Gipson was shot at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, while riding in a car in the 7500 block of South Merrill Avenue, said Officer Daniel O'Brien, a police spokesman. When the car passed six to eight people, one of them fired at the car, he said. Gipson was hit in the head and taken to Jackson Park Hospital. He was later transfered to Stroger.
