CHICAGO — Southport Avenue will close down from Waveland to Byron for Summer on Southport, the neighborhood's annual summer festival.
Bands like 16 Candles, School of Rock and Too White Crew will take the stage during the two-day annual festival, which starts at 11 a.m. June 29. Admission will be a $5 suggested donation, with proceeds going to the Southport Neighbors Association to aid "with neighborhood beautification and other local matters," said event spokesman Derek Serafin.
"Summer on Southport is truly a celebration of the Southport community, with local vendors selling their wares as well as local restaurants on hand serving up great cuisine all weekend long," Serafin said in an email.
The festival will feature food and drinks from The Coast, The Wurst Haus, Puffs of Doom and Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams. There are games and activities like face painting for kids during the day.
The fest will run from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. June 29 and 30.
