CHICAGO — A brief, but intense thunderstorm severely delayed 'L' and Metra train service Monday evening.

The Brown, Red and Purple lines were all temporarily suspended or severely delayed.

Along the Brown Line, debris near the Rockwell stop shut down service. By 7:45 p.m., trains were running with residual delays on the track. The CTA offered shuttle buses available for Brown Line riders affected by the stoppage.

Several Metra lines also were halted.

"This is a dangerous situation," according to a National Weather Service severe thunderstorm warning. "These storms have been producing widespread wind damage. Seek shelter now inside a sturdy structure and stay away from windows."

The warning covered much of the northern part of Illinois, including all of Cook County through 6:45 p.m.

A Downtown Sound concert featuring the Carolina Chocolate Drops at Millennium Park was initially canceled Monday evening, but the performers were called back to the stage at 7 p.m.
