CHICAGO — A man cut a woman's neck and hands while attempting to sexually assault her in South Shore Tuesday, according to police.
The woman was walking south in the 2900 block of East 79th Street about 9:30 p.m. when she was approached by a man. They spoke and took a shortcut through an alley, according to a community alert.
As they reached an area of overgrown shrubbery, the man threw the woman down and attempted to pull down her pants, according to police. He cut the woman's neck and hands with a knife as she struggled to get away, officials said.
The man is described as black, 40 to 46 years old, standing 6-foot-4 with a thin build and dark wavy hair. He was wearing an off-white shirt and a large tan stripe and gray khakis, police said.
