CHICAGO — Nine children were sent to local hospitals after being exposed to pepper spray at Ruben Salazar Bilingual Center on the Near North Side Wednesday, officials said.
Three children were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition, the fire department said. One student went to Lurie Children's Hospital in fair-to-serious condition joining five others in good condition.
Based on preliminary information, police believe children were playing with a spray container that accidentally went off.
