PILSEN — Vintage is exploding in Pilsen this summer, with a outdoor flea market starting this Sunday and the debut of Revival a GO-GO, a vintage shop with '60s mod flair.

The “Pilsen Flea” will combine rockin’ Pilsen vintage along with local artists connected to Chicago Urban Arts Society.

It was only a few months ago that Revival a GO-GO owner Cammie Christopher worked at Comet. The 34-year-old was teaching yoga and hustling vintage goods at Comet on the side, trying to figure out her next steps.

“I just loved what they were doing and they sat me down and were like … ‘What can we do to get you where you want to be?’” Christopher said.

Christopher "was definitely was here at a time when we really needed someone,” said Jamie Roelofs, of Comet Vintage. “I think there’s definitely a market for the type of vintage she’s into. It speaks a lot about her personal style, which I think people will really respond to.”

Christopher’s store, opening in the former Oxala Gallery at 1653 W. 18th St., has bright '60s mod dresses, vintage decorative scooters and wood Chicago pop art by her brother, Chicago woodworker Rob Christopher.

Ultimately for Christopher, vintage trumped yoga, at least with regard to being a teacher. But she still keeps her yoga mentality. For Christopher, having her “lifestyle and her life’s work” one in the same gives her no greater joy.

“I love getting dressed up and running errands and doing my thing and always looking for treasures,” she said.

She turns 35 on June 16 but, as far as Christopher’s concerned, her ultimate birthday gift came early.

“I got a store for my birthday. That’s how I look at it,” the blonde mod lady said with a smile.

The Pilsen Flea is Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Peoria Street between 16th and 18th streets. Revival a Go-Go officially opens for Pilsen 2nd Fridays and will offer bubbly, pastries and Tecáte in addition to 20 percent off "Mad Men"-style flair.
