BRIDGEPORT — Farmers market season begins Saturday in Bridgeport with this year’s debut of the city-backed market.

The market is scheduled to take place 7 a.m.-1 p.m. every Saturday through Oct. 5 in the parking lot at the southeast corner of 35th Street and Wallace Avenue, right across from Grandstand Sports.

Tracking down a complete list of vendors proved tough. Calls and emails to the city's cultural affairs and special events department weren't returned but a newspaper advertisement for the market touts "fresh fruit, vegetables, flowers, cheese, baked good and more."

Josh Dotson, of the Beecher-based Dotson's Farms, said his family farm will be offering potted flowers and herbs, lettuce, peas, sugar snap peas, kale, beets, radishes, potatoes and broccoli at Saturday's market.

He said they'll be at the market throughout the season.

Past vendors have included the sweet and savory artisan puff peddlers Puffs of Doom and Stamper Cheese Company, according to a review in Chicagoist.
