Man Charged in Hit-and-Run That Seriously Hurt Grandmother, Grandson

CHICAGO — A man has been charged in the hit-and-run that left a grandmother and her grandson seriously hurt in West Englewood Monday night, authorities said.

A 65-year-old woman and her 14-year-old grandson were hit by a teal-colored Pontiac Montana minivan as they crossed the road in the 6400 block of South Paulina Avenue about 6 p.m., police and the fire officials said. The then car fled the scene, police said.

Devonte Scott, 21, of the 6500 block of South Peoria Street, was later taken into custody and charged with two felony counts of failure to report an accident with injury, police said. He was also was ticketed for driving on a suspended license, not having a driver's license and other driving violations.

The woman and her grandson were taken to local hospitals in serious condition, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

He was ordered held on a $350,000 bail, according court documents.
