CHICAGO — A man jumped to his death onto the Kennedy Expy. on the Near West Side Tuesday morning, state police said.

The man jumped off train tracks above Hubbard's Cave and landed on the inbound lanes of the Kennedy close to Hubbard Street about 10 a.m., according to Elizabeth Nanai, a spokeswoman with the Illinois State Police.

The incident closed three lanes of traffic, though Nanai said the lanes had been cleared by 10:40 a.m.

The 34-year-old man was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, and he was pronounced dead at 10:57 a.m., according to the Chicago Fire Department and the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The death was an apparent suicide, according to the morgue.

An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday.
