Man Apparently Shot to Death Found in South Side Apartment

 Police are investigating a man's death as a homicide after he was found dead in his South Side apartment Monday afternoon with apparent trauma to his head, cops said. The man, who was in his late 30s, was found unresponsive by his roommate in the first-floor apartment they shared in the 6800 block of South Martin Luther King Drive in the Park Manor neighborhood.

CHICAGO — Police are investigating a man's death as a homicide after he was found dead in his South Side apartment Monday with a gunshot wound to his head, cops said.

The man was found unresponsive by his roommate in the first-floor apartment they shared in the 6800 block of South Martin Luther King Drive in the Park Manor neighborhood, said Officer John Mirabelli, a police spokesman.

He was identified as Raphael Smith, 39, and pronounced dead Monday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

His roommate called police to the apartment about 12:12 p.m. Monday, Mirabelli said. Police said Tuesday that the man was shot in the head.

No one was in custody.
