CHICAGO — Police are investigating a man's death as a homicide after he was found dead in his South Side apartment Monday with a gunshot wound to his head, cops said.

The man was found unresponsive by his roommate in the first-floor apartment they shared in the 6800 block of South Martin Luther King Drive in the Park Manor neighborhood, said Officer John Mirabelli, a police spokesman.

He was identified as Raphael Smith, 39, and pronounced dead Monday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

His roommate called police to the apartment about 12:12 p.m. Monday, Mirabelli said. Police said Tuesday that the man was shot in the head.

No one was in custody.
