CHICAGO — Charges have been filed in the case of a Far South Side strip club owner who was fatally shot after a fender bender early Sunday morning.
Angelo Bennett, 24, of the 4300 block of North Ashland Avenue, was charged Thursday with first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm in the death of Charles Jones, a manager at The Factory, a strip club in the Riverdale neighborhood.
Shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday, a 2005 Buick LaCrosse sideswiped a 2007 Maserati in the 1000 block of North North Branch Avenue, said Officer John Mirabelli, a police spokesman.
When the drivers got out of their cars to assess damage, the two men who had been in the Buick started to walk away, Mirabelli said. As they returned, at least one of the men pulled a gun and began shooting at the Maserati's passengers.
Charles Jones, the luxury car's 44-year-old driver, was fatally struck in the head, while a 42-year-old female passenger was hit in the back. Both were rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where the woman was listed in stable condition on Sunday.
Bennett is scheduled to appear in bond court Friday morning.
