NORTH CENTER — Neighbors are on the alert after a man approached a student at Bell Elementary, 3730 N. Oakley Ave., and attempted to lure the boy away from the school's playground.

The suspect is described as an African-American male, approximately 5-feet 6-inches tall, thin frame, brown eyes, short hair, wearing a blue Cubs baseball cap, blue jeans, a short-sleeved black shirt with a stain on it and flip-flops.

The incident occurred at 3:25 p.m. on Tuesday, according to a notice shared with Roscoe Village Neighbors via Audubon Elementary.

The notice read: "The man stated he was here to take the boy [a fourth-grader] home because his mother was sleeping. The student did not recognize the man and immediately ran away from him. The man then left the playground walking west on Grace Street."

The student and his mother reported the incident to Bell staff. The Chicago Police Department is investigating.
