LINCOLN PARK — The city's first Smashburger restaurant is set to open next week in Lincoln Park, bringing the Denver-based chain's ground beef smashing act to Clybourn Avenue.

The restaurant, where workers literally smash the never-frozen burgers into patties, will have a grand opening at 2031 N. Clybourn Ave. Wednesday.

The burger chain has 10 locations throughout the suburbs and intends to expand in the city.

The Lincoln Park location has not yet obtained a liquor license, but hopes to soon serve local craft beers.

The full service restaurant's menu consists of a number of specialty burgers such as the Windy City burger with cheddar, haystack onions, lettuce, tomato and spicy mustard on a pretzel bun; chicken sandwiches salads; and Haagen-Dazs shakes.

“We are pleased to open our first downtown Smashburger location and expand our regional footprint in the Chicago area,” said David Prokupek, Chairman & CEO of Smashburger in a statement.

Smashburger has 208 corporate and franchise restaurants in 29 states and in four countries.
