CHICAGO — Extra police will be deployed in the South Chicago District this weekend, scouring Southeast Side streets for drunken drivers, speeders and seatbelt scofflaws.

The DUI Strike Force Patrol will hit the streets between 8 p.m. Saturday and 4 a.m. Sunday.

The goal of the program is "to saturate [an area] with roving police officers that continually monitor vehicular traffic for signs of impaired driving," according to a police community alert.

DUI Strike Force Patrols have been deployed in several areas of the city so far this year.

A similar patrol in the Ogden District earlier this month netted four DUI arrests, 25 seatbelt violations and 71 total tickets.
