CHICAGO — A man was badly hurt after he was assaulted and robbed inside a Loop CTA "L" station Thursday morning, authorities said.

The victim, 85, was climbing stairs to transfer from the Blue Line to the Red Line at the Jackson Station, 328 S. Dearborn St., when he was knocked down and robbed of his wallet about 10:30 a.m., said Officer Michael Sullivan, a Chicago Police Department spokesman.

The man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious-to-critical condition, said Chicago Fire Department spokesman Will Knight. The man's condition stabilized, Sullivan said.

CTA officials were told the man was conscious and breathing on the way to the hospital, CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski said.

No one is in custody, and police did not have a description of any attackers Thursday afternoon.
