LAKEVIEW — Halsted Street may soon look a little more blue.

Briar Street Theatre's Blue Man Group announced an art competition Wednesday for Blue Man-inspired artwork to eventually display on the exterior wall of the theater at 3133 N. Halsted St.

The competition calls for art "inspired by the exuberant and joyful essence of Blue Man Group without featuring a Blue Man," according to a statement.

Six winners will be chosen for a semi-permanent gallery on the south wall of the Briar Street Theatre and a gallery in the lobby — and winning artists will each get a cash prize of $5,000. The contest will be judged by Blue Man cast and crew members and local leaders.

Artists can use any medium — acrylic, digital art, drawing, oil, photography, etc. — but 3D work will not be accepted. Interested artists can submit entries on the website until Aug. 1.

The winning art will be reproduced into 10x10 versions for the outside of the theater and displayed starting September as part of EXPO ART WEEK, a city culture and art showcase.
