CHICAGO — An Auburn Gresham woman faces an attempted murder charge after police said she attacked and dragged an officer with her car after police pulled her over near her home.

Catherine Brown, 38, of the 8200 block of South Kerfoot Avenue, was charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery of a peace officer. She was also cited with failing to carry a driver's license and other traffic-related charges.

Police said officers pulled over Brown's car not far from her home at 9:14 p.m. Monday. When an officer approached her, Brown punched her in the face, grabbed the officer by her bulletproof vest and accelerated, dragging the officer down the street as she drove. At some point during the incident, Brown struck a parked car.

Inside the car with Brown was an 8-year-old child, police said.

The officer was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and released.

Brown was arrested and also taken to a local hospital after the incident. She is expected to appear in bond court Wednesday.
