NORTH CENTER — Nothing sucks the life out of date night like springing for the equivalent of dinner and a movie ... to pay the babysitter at the the end of the evening.

The folks at Pilgrim Lutheran Church and School feel your pain. Two years ago, they created Parents' Night Out, which provides free babysitting services to help ease the burden on moms and dads looking to spend a little time away from the kids without having to sign for a second mortgage.

The next Parents' Night Out is scheduled for 5-8 p.m. May 18. May 15 is the deadline to reserve a space for your child between the ages of 3-10 (kids must be toilet trained). There are 30 slots available, with 15 set aside for Pilgrim families and 15 for community members.

Children are cared for at Maring Hall, in the church's basement at 4300 N. Winchester Ave. Adult volunteers and seventh- and eighth-grade students at Pilgrim Lutheran School will supervise and entertain their charges with games, crafts and a G-rated movie. Pizza is also provided.

Parents' Night Out takes place quarterly, with future evenings set for August and November.

There is no fee, but the church will accept a $2 donation per family to help pay for supplies. To reserve a spot, contact Kristi Killelea at (773) 343-6073 or kkillelea@gmail.com.
