ENGLEWOOD — A man who was shot in the head three years ago died from his wounds early Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Alfred Wilson, 59, was pronounced dead at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Bernard Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

On the night of June 5, 2010, police found Wilson on a sidewalk near his home in the 7100 block of May Street, according to Officer Michael Sullivan, a police spokesman. Wilson had been shot in the back of the head, Sullivan said.

Police said it is still unclear why Wilson was shot. A person was taken into custody in relation to the shooting but later released without being charged, according to Officer Jose Estrada, a police spokesman.
