NEAR WEST SIDE — A man was shot while in his vehicle Monday night.

The man, identified by his stepdaughter as Carmen Paparone, 39, then drove around the corner for help, the young girl said.

According to police, the shooting occurred at 7:01 p.m. on the 900 block of South Claremont Avenue.

Paparone's stepdaughter, Ramona, said the shooting was in retaliation for an incident Saturday in which a relative's friend had threatened her — instead, the shooter chose to harm her stepfather, she said.

At least three bullet holes could be seen in Paparone's blue sedan where it came to rest.

Paparone was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition with a bullet wound to the chest, police said.

Further information was not available.
