CHICAGO — In an apparent suicide, a 19-year-old man duct-taped bricks to himself and jumped into the North Branch of the Chicago River, police said.
Officers on patrol near the 1100 block of West North Avenue in Lincoln Park were flagged down just before 5 a.m. Saturday by someone who told them a man was trying to commit suicide, said Officer John Mirabelli, a police spokesman.
The officers immediately began searching for the person, and the Marine Unit was called to the scene.
A 19-year-old Downers Grove man was found in the water and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, authorities said.
He was pronounced dead at 6:25 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
