CHICAGO — Diesel fumes at the O'Hare Blue Line station sent five CTA workers to a local hospital and briefly shut down service on a portion of the "L" line, authorities said.
A "level one" hazardous materials alert was reported about 7:05 a.m., according to the Chicago Fire Department, but it was unclear whether there was a fuel spill, spokesman Juan Hernandez said.
Five CTA employees who said they felt nauseated after smelling diesel fuel were taken to Resurrection Hospital in good condition, the Fire Department said. The employees' genders and ages were unavailable.
The CTA was asked to briefly stop "L" service between O'Hare and Rosemont stations during the incident, though shuttle bus service was provided, CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinksi said.
Service resumed about 7:45 a.m. with some delays and returned to normal service soon after, the CTA reported.
