CHICAGO — One person was injured in a kitchen fire that broke out in a North Side high-rise building Wednesday morning, the Chicago Fire Department said.

Firefighters responded to a blaze on the seventh floor of a building in the 5000 block of North Marine Drive sometime before 9:30 a.m., according to the fire department. The fire department said the flames started in the kitchen.

One person suffered smoke inhalation and had trouble breathing, the fire department said. Authorities initially said the victim was taken to Weis Memorial Hospital in fair-to-serious condition, the fire department said.

Information about the victim's age and gender was not immediately available.

The Uptown apartment didn't have a sprinkler, authorities said.
