COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — An Old Town teen was chased from a DePaul University dorm after allegedly stealing a laptop from one student and walking in on another while she was getting dressed, court records show.

DeQuan Mayfield, 18, walked into Francis X McCabe Hall, 900 W. Belden St., on Tuesday and helped himself to an Apple MacBook from the unlocked dorm room of a 20-year-old female student, according to court records.

With the computer in hand, Mayfield allegedly surprised a second female student getting dressed in her unlocked dorm room, exclaiming, "Sorry, wrong room," when he opened the door to her bedroom.

Mayfield attempted to enter two more rooms before the students realized their was an "intruder" in the building, court records state. One of them, a male student, gave chase.

Mayfield, who attends Lincoln Park High School, allegedly pushed that student and fled.

But police eventually caught up with him. He was identified by the student as the thief, according to police, and charged with two counts of residential burglary and battery for pushing the student.

Cook County Judge James Brown set his bond at $90,000 Wednesday.
