South Chicago Man Charged With Arson

CHICAGO — A South Chicago man has been charged with arson after two vacant homes burned Monday on the Southeast Side.

Jerry D. Mallett, of the 8500 block of South Exchange Avenue, was charged with arson and criminal trespass, police said.

Mallett, 47, was placed near the scene where two vacant houses burned at 8048 and 8130 S. Escanaba Ave. No one was injured in those fires, which each started about the same time early Monday morning, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

Mallett is expected to appear in bond court Tuesday.
