COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — "Melissa & Alex."

The suburban teen probably just wanted everyone riding the CTA Orange Line to know how he felt about a girl when he used a dime to etch her name in the train window.

Unfortunately for Alex Gutierrez, 18, a Chicago cop patrolling the train was among the first people to witness his testament to teenage love, according to court records.

Gutierrez, of the 5600 block of West 79th Street in Burbank, was arrested and charged with criminal damage to government property just before midnight Monday when a police officer allegedly caught him scratching "Melissa & Alex" along with other wording and designs in the train window.

Damage to the train window totaled roughly $1,900, according to court records.

Gutierrez was arrested in the 4600 block of West 59th Street.

Cook County Judge James Brown recommended Gutierrez for electronic monitoring on Tuesday when he appeared in bond court.
