AUSTIN — There were four people shot dead and at least 22 wounded in Chicago since Friday — but compared to last year, that's progress, Chicago's top cop said Monday.
Reacting to another bloody weekend in Chicago's neighborhoods, Police Supt. Garry McCarthy said police are making progress toward crime reduction.
“This weekend, compared to the same time frame last year, we had four murders,” McCarthy said Monday at a news conference at the Austin District police station. “Last year, there were eight. This is progress, no two ways about it.”
Between Friday afternoon and Sunday evening, at least 26 people were shot across the city. Four died, while several others were listed in critical condition as the weekend closed.
