Police Warn of Spike in Near West Side Robberies

CHICAGO — Police are warning Near West Side residents of an increase in robberies during April.

Two men walk up to victims and imply they have a weapon but do not show one, according to a community alert.

The robberies occurred about 9 p.m. Friday in the 1700 block of West Grand Avenue and about 3:15 a.m. Saturday in the 1700 block of West Augusta Avenue, police said.

The robbers are described as black men, standing 6 feet tall and weighing between 120 and 140 pounds, police said.
