CHICAGO — Funeral services for Roger Ebert, the beloved Chicago Sun-Times film critic who died Thursday, will take place at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Name Cathedral, 730 N. State St.
The service will be open to the public, and seats are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Ebert's memory can send donations to The Ebert Foundation, c/o Northern Trust, 50 S. LaSalle St., Chicago, 60603. The nonprofit foundation supports arts and education programs.
Ebert died Thursday at age 70 after battling cancer. His death struck a note with Chicagoans who had come to know and love the critic, who won a Pulitzer Prize in 1975 and spent decades on TV screens giving a welcome thumbs-up or a dreaded thumbs-down.
