Patti Blagojevich Hopes Daughter's 10th Birthday Is Last Without Rod

By DNAinfo Staff on April 5, 2013 11:11am

CHICAGO — Patti Blagojevich is hopeful that her husband Rod Blagojevich will be out of prison to celebrate their daughter's 11th birthday next April.

In a Facebook post Friday morning, the former first lady of Illinois wished her daughter a happy birthday with this message: "And then in what seemed like a blink of an eye, my little girl turned 10 years old at 5am this morning. Happy Birthday Annie! Hopefully this is the last without her dad."

Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich landed in a federal prison in Colorado over a year ago on a corruption conviction related to his attempting to sell Barack Obama's Senate seat after he was elected president in 2008.

His only chance of getting out would be if his conviction were overturned on appeal. Blagojevich just finished the first year of a 14-year sentence. Under federal sentencing rules, he has to serve a minimum of 12 years of the sentence, although he could shave a little off the sentence if he successfully completes a substance-abuse program.

On the one-year anniversary of her husband's incarceration last month, Patti Blagojevich wrote: "All that we have been left with is a aching hole in our lives."
