CHICAGO — One man was killed and another wounded during a South Chicago shooting Thursday night, police said.

The men were walking along the 2700 block of East 80th Street about 6 p.m. when two gunmen approached them and opened fire, said Officer Amina Greer, a police spokeswoman.

D'Angelo Simmons, 22, of the 8000 block of South Manistee Avenue, was shot in his chest and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:04 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Simmons' 18-year-old companion sustained a gunshot wound in his ankle, Greer said. He was taken in good condition to South Shore Hospital.

As of Friday morning, no one is in custody.

Police believe the shooting may be gang-related, Greer said.
