Police Warn Southwest Side Businesses of Armed Robberies

CHICAGO — Police have issued an alert warning businesses about armed robberies that took place last week at small retail shops in Archer Heights and Garfield Ridge.

Police said a man entered a store in the 5000 block of South Pulaski Avenue in Archer Heights about 8:55 p.m. on March 27, pulled out a handgun and demanded money from the cash register and the safe.

The next day, the gunman entered a shop in the 4800 block of South Cicero Avenue about 8:45 p.m., according to the alert. He then pulled a handgun and demanded money from the register and safe at the Garfield Ridge store as well, police said.

The robber is described in the alert as a black man 30 to 32 years old, 6 feet 1 inches to 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing 160 to 170 pounds.

Police asked anyone with information about the robberies to call detectives at 312-747-8380.
