CHICAGO — Several car owners in a single block in the South Loop had an unpleasant awakening April Fools' Day after they found broken windows on about 20 cars, police said.

Police responded Monday morning to multiple calls of property damage in the 1300 block of South Wabash Avenue, said officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police Department spokesman.

When officers arrived they found that about 20 cars had driver or passenger windows smashed in, Estrada said.

Estrada said the incidents occurred sometime overnight.  Police said they had no witnesses to the crimes.

It appeared nothing had been taken from the cars, police said.
