CHICAGO — A speeding driver was found dead after his vehicle crashed into a tree in West Rogers Park, police said.

He was traveling in the 2900 block of West Howard Street about 9:10 p.m. Thursday with five other people in the vehicle, said Officer Amina Greer, a police spokeswoman.

The driver was found unresponsive, Greer said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 9:45 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The man's identity and age haven't been released by the office.

Four others were sent to Lutheran General Hospital, Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, according to fire officials.

They are expected to survive, Greer said.

The fifth passenger fled from the scene on foot, Greer said.
