CHICAGO — A janitor stole two smartphones and a laptop from the Environmental Protection Agency's Chicago office where he worked, officials said Thursday.

Alan Baker, 35, of the 13000 block of South Houston Avenue, was arrested and charged Monday with one count of theft of government property, a felony. He was held in lieu of a $10,000 bond at Cook County Jail, according to a statement from the Cook County Sheriff's Office.

Baker was working a temp job as a janitor at the EPA's Chicago office in December when he stole the electronics, officials said.

Baker contacted the laptop manufacturer's help line for assistance. Officers interviewed him Monday and found the phones and laptop in his house, the statement said.

Baker's next court date is scheduled for Monday, April 1.
