UKRAINIAN VILLAGE — The Chicago Transit Authority will hold its second job fair Saturday as it looks to hire as many as 700 customer service assistants to direct riders at "L" stations across the city.
The fair is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Roberto Clemente Community Academy High School, 1147 N. Western Ave.
“These 700 new positions are more than just jobs — they represent 700 opportunities to boost household incomes, to help parents, many of them Chicagoans, put food on the table and pay bills for their families,” CTA President Forrest Claypool said.
The new part-time hires will join some 200 full-time customer service assistants already working at the busiest "L" stops, helping riders during peak hours, the CTA said.
They will be assigned to all 145 "L" stations during slower ridership periods, where private-contract workers are now being used.
The new employees will be paid $12 to $14 an hour and will become part of Transit Union Local 308.
Applicants must be at least 21 and pass drug, alcohol, background and basic skills tests.
