THE LOOP — The smooth-edged, subtly curving structure of Cloud Gate will soon get some well-matched company when the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events opens the latest show at Millennium Park's Boeing Galleries April 12.

"Legends, Myths and Truths: Jun Kaneko" will celebrate Japanese artist Kaneko's signature "Dangos," human figurines sculpted in ceramic with rounded edges, named for the Japanese word for "dumpling."

"Legends, Myths and Truths" draws on the myths of the Japanese Tanuki figure, a symbol of fertility and consumer culture originating in Shigaraki, Japan. The characters have exaggerated features meant to bring prosperity, including big eyes to increase perceptiveness, a full belly and an approachable smile.

The exhibition will run through Nov. 3 and will be publicly available to all Millennium Park visitors at the gallery east of the Crown Fountain, which was funded by Boeing Co. in 2005.
