CHICAGO — A man carrying cocaine in a car led police on an eight-mile chase in Ashburn after hitting an officer in the elbow with a side-view mirror, prosecutors said.
Salvadore Tenuta, of Mokena, was charged with fleeing and eluding peace officers and aggravated assault of an officer, and was ordered held on $150,000 bond in court Sunday.
Tenuta, 46, was pulled over on a traffic stop in the 7900 block of South Western Avenue about 2:17 p.m. Saturday before fleeing from police, prosecutors said.
He then took off in the direction of an officer, who he hit with a passenger side mirror in the elbow.
The officer showed no sign of injury, police said.
Tenuta led police on a 14-minute, eight mile chase until he crashed into a marked squad car in the 3300 block of West 79th Street.
Tenuta told police he fled because he was on probation from a 2012 theft conviction and had a crack pipe in the car.
Police found seven grams of cocaine in his car.
