Metropolitan Brewing Joins Harlem Shake Craze

By Patty Wetli | February 26, 2013 3:19pm

RAVENSWOOD — The Norwegian army is doing it, so why not a bunch of brewers.

Metropolitan Brewing's staff and friends have been bitten by the Harlem Shake bug, the Internet meme that went viral almost the instant the original video was uploaded earlier this month by a group of teenagers from Australia.

Dubbed "Harlem Shake — Chicago Lager Style," Metropolitan's video follows the Shake format to a "t": lone helmeted dancer surrounded by oblivious co-workers, followed by a crazy, costumed group rave.

The video has nearly 2,000 views since it was posted to YouTube Monday.

Seems Metropolitan is really into shaking things up lately, in more ways than one.

Last week, the brewery confirmed it's scouting locations in order to expand operations. On Monday, Metropolitan announced via Facebook post that it's making some changes to its core lineup of brews, switching Iron Works from year-round to seasonal.

In advance of the brew's March release, the post advised, "Put on your hoarding pants."
