CHICAGO — The state Department of Children and Family Services is investigating the Friday death of a 14-month old boy.

DCFS spokesman Dave Clarkin said the parents of Rogelio Celso are under investigation for neglect. The state has had no prior contact with the family.

Rogelio, of the 5700 block of West 64th Place, was found unresponsive in bed at his parents' home. He was pronounced dead at 4:27 a.m. at Holy Cross Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Clarkin said over the past seven months, DCFS has received a report of a child death in Illinois every 36 hours. Forty-four percent of those deaths were the result of neglect through sleep suffication, he said.

Clarkin urged parents to follow the ABCs of safe sleep: a child should be alone, on their back and in a crib.
