AUSTIN — A woman died and a man was injured early Thursday in a house fire in Austin.

Tamisha Davis, 18, died in the blaze in the 900 block of North Waller Avenue, authorities said.

The man was taken to West Suburban Medical Center, according to the Chicago Fire Department’s Twitter feed. It was not clear what injuries he had sustained.

The Fire Department first reported the fire on Twitter about 1:40 a.m. A crowd of weeping onlookers stood outside the charred two-story house about 5 a.m.

The second floor and attic appeared to sustain the most damage, while the first floor appeared to not have been as seriously burned.

Onlookers declined to comment, and some sobbed as Davis’ body was removed from the house about 5:20 a.m.

Lance Conley stared at the house, seemingly in a daze. He said he had been hanging out with the owner of the house, Larry Fletcher, Wednesday night.

He said he saw his friend’s house burning on the news Thursday morning.

“I’m like, that’s my buddy’s house,” he said.
