Officials: Dead Man Pulled from Marquette Park Lagoon was Drunk, Drowned

CHICAGO — A man whose body was pulled from Marquette Park Lagoon Tuesday was was drunk when he drowned, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said.

Javier Barragan, 56, was pulled from the frozen waters in Chicago Lawn about 1 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

His death was ruled an accident in an autopsy released by the medical examiner's office Thursday.

The first cause of death was drowning, and the secondary cause was alcohol intoxication, according to the autopsy report.

Barragan, of the 6300 block of South Sacramento Avenue, was pronounced about 2:35 p.m. Tuesday at the medical examiner's office.
