Online Shoppers Robbed in South Side Ruse

CHICAGO — Several online shoppers expecting to exchange cash for a purchase got a gun pointed at them instead, police warned in a community alert Thursday.

Two armed robberies occured on the South Side recently when people buying or selling items online met with the man who ended up robbing them, officials said.

The man acts as though he is going to go through with the exchange but then pulls out a gun, accoring to the alert.

He takes either the item the person was selling or the cash they were offering, police said.

A person was robbed about 7 p.m. Jan. 25 in the 200 block of West Garfield Boulevard. Another was robbed about 12:55 p.m. Feb. 7 in the 3700 block of South Wells Street, police said.
