CHICAGO — A West Town man was charged Friday with four felony counts after breaking into the home of an off-duty Chicago police officer, authorities said.
Elraheem Wilkins, 19, of the 1500 block of North Rockwell Street, allegedly forcibly entered the officer’s residence Friday morning and attempted to leave with stolen items.
When the officer discovered Wilkins, he identified himself and ordered Wilkins to stop, according to a police statement.
A struggle ensued, and the officer was later transported to a local hospital for a broken bone in his right hand.
Wilkins was arrested and placed in police custody at approximately 10 a.m. He has been charged with one felony count each of: residential burglary, aggravated battery to a peace officer, resisting arrest and home invasion/cause injury.
