CHICAGO — Two home invasions in Ashburn have led police to issue a community alert.

The invasions, which occured nearly a month apart, took place on the 2900 Block of West 81st Street and the 3900 Block of West 82nd Street between the hours of 12 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Police are warning residents in the South Side's 8th police district of a suspect who robs victims by approaching them outside of their home and entering by force. The suspect's "description varies," according to police, but he is generally described as a black male 30-40 years old, 5-foot-nine to six feet, 200-220 pounds.

Another community alert for residents of the Near West Side, including Humboldt Park and East Garfield Park, urges residents to be aware of three robberies that took place between Jan. 26 and Feb. 4.

Victims on the 2700 Block of West Maypole Avenue, the 3000 Block of West Franklin Boulevard and the 800 Block of N. Kedzie Avenue were approached by an armed suspect who took victims' property by force.

The suspects' "description varies," but they are generally described as one to two black males, ages 20-25, 5 feet to 5-foot-5, 135-150 pounds.

Both alerts urge residents to keep doors and windows secured and to report suspicious activity to 911 immediately.

Police ask anyone with information to call detectives at (312) 747-8380.
