EDGEWATER — LA Fitness, a national gym chain, plans to open a location in the building formerly home to Hancock Fabrics, officials announced Friday.

The building's owner had planned to redevelop the building at 6101 N. Broadway, located next door to a construction site of a future Walgreen's.

Ald. Harry Osterman (48th) said the gym would hire 35 people when it opens by the end of the year.

The 20,000-square-foot space would feature gym equipment including stationary bikes and 50 pieces of cardio equipment, he said. Fifty classes a week would be offered.

A rendering of the building shows a more modern exterior.

Osterman said he was working with Hancock Fabrics to find a new location in Edgewater.
